The Yearbook team is one of the most underrated components of the Phoenix Country Day School community. In past years, the club has consisted of no more than 5 people, working on a yearbook that covers major events during the school year, such as Blue and Gold, Game On, and First Friday. Since 2022, however, interest in being a part of the Yearbook Club has grown.
The Co-Editors-in-Chief for the 25-26 school year are Sharvi Chaurasia ‘26, Taylor Bulloch ‘26, and I (‘26). Our jobs began during the summer of 2025, when potential yearbook themes haunted our dreams. With the help of Ms. Wright, Associate Director of College Counseling and Yearbook Advisor, the Chief Editors eventually decided on a theme and began assembling the Yearbook staff.
The Co-Editors-in-Chief began designing the book cover and met with a representative from Walsworth, a family-owned printing company, in early September in order to get an idea of what they could accomplish with their budget and ideas. Inspiration for the book cover came from Pinterest and films that captured the theme.
Between September and October, the Co-Editors assigned roles to Yearbook members for the other editor spots. These spots include: Photography Editor, Student Life Editor, Sports Editor, Graphic Design Editors, and Senior Editors. These roles were assigned to the following individuals, respectively: Julianna Crissali ‘27, Camila Saenz ‘27, Eliza Meltzer ‘26 and Dylan Rich ‘27, Sophia Weiland ‘26 and Asia Harper ‘26, Mia Coviello ‘26, and Sophia Bosch ‘26.
Here is what each role aims to accomplish:
Photography Editor: This job shifted this year after a change was made to how middle school sports are run. In the past, the Photography Editor had to schedule times with Coach Lewis, PCDS Director of Athletics and Men’s Varsity Basketball coach, to see when taking team photos for the middle school would work best. This year, since all MS games will be held on Saturdays, the Photography Editor has the choice to stay all day Saturday to take pictures and watch the games, or let Coach Lewis take the photos and send them. Additionally, the Photography Editor takes numerous photos of student life around campus, especially during spirit weeks. Without the Photography Editor, the Yearbook simply could not be completed.
Student Life Editor: Similarly to the Photography Editor, the Student Life Editor can snap pictures of students around the quad or in between class breaks. When it is time to start putting the yearbook together, the Student Life Editor is in charge of certain pages, including Blue and Gold Day/Night, Lower and Middle School life, the 8th Grade Catalina Trip, the Freshman Retreat, and Art and Music. The Student Life Editor gets to decide how these pages are organized. Last year, the Student Life Editor worked alongside the Middle School photography team to put these pages together. Ideally, the Student Life Editor is substantially involved in the PCDS community through sports, clubs, and theatre.
Sports Editor: The contents of this job include gathering the team rosters from Coach Lewis and designing pages where you might see basketball players dunking the ball or the tennis team posing with their rackets. This task can be difficult at times, especially when there aren’t enough action shots of the PCDS teams. This is where the Sports and Photography Editors typically work together to ensure a complete representation of PCDS sports. Overall, the Sports Editor works hard to ensure that every PCDS team is accounted for in the Yearbook.
Graphic Design Editor: This year, Graphic Design Editor Sophia Weiland ’26 has been a crucial member in the making of the Yearbook. Thanks to Sophia and her designs, the book cover has been finalized and will soon be sent to Walsworth for approval. The time commitment that comes with being a graphic designer really depends on how many ideas one brings to the table and how unique the chosen Yearbook theme is.
Senior Editors: So far, our Senior Editors’ main job has been to organize senior pages in Walsworth and to remind the senior class to work on and complete their pages. These pages, designed by seniors themselves, are located towards the end of the Yearbook. Additionally, the Senior Editors and anyone else who wants to contribute will help parents make senior ads, meant as messages to the seniors from their beloved family members.
If any of these positions interested you in any way, I would greatly recommend that you join the Yearbook team. Some jobs come with extensive time commitment, but others really depend on how much time and effort you choose to put into them. If, throughout this year, you take a picture that you want included in the Yearbook, contact one of the Co-Editors-in-Chief. You just might see that photo in the Yearbook!
Overall, the Yearbook team is incredibly excited to share their hard work with the PCDS community this spring, and hopes to inspire the next generation of contributors with this year’s design!
