For many seasons, the PCDS Varsity Volleyball team has dominated the 2A Conference, ruthlessly crushing opponents from schools across the state.
It is evident that such athletic achievements do not come easily. Not only does the team consist of a group of highly talented players, but they also have an additional key to success that has served them well, time and time again. “For my four years, it’s definitely been about teamwork,” revealed Quincy Rodin, captain of the team.
Currently, the team’s record stands at 14-1 overall and 12-1 in the conference. They are also ranked #1 in both the conference and the region. Rodin added, “I think we’re working really well as a team and I think it’s been good to face adversity of wins and losses and playing different types of teams, so that as we get further along towards states, it’s easier for us to adapt.”
With state championships approaching in November, the team has continued to work hard and display the
ir best effort in every game. Most recently, they beat Horizon Honors 3-0, ALA 3-1, and Veritas 3-0.
It has also become increasingly apparent that the team’s current seniors have created a welcoming environment for new players. Freshman Layla Jarvis commented, “Coming on as a freshman has been really great because the team is so supportive.”
With the foundations of support and teamwork that the team has built over the past few years, the team will undoubtedly continue to thrive for the rest of the season and in years to come. Jarvis concluded, “I’m definitely looking forward to the next couple years and hopefully being able to make it to state championships one of my four years.”
Reminiscing on her past experiences with the team – including two state championship victories in 2021 and 2022 – Rodin stated, “I’ll miss the team and the support system.” Clearly, being a part of the PCDS Varsity Volleyball team has not only come with victories and successes, but also with the creation of lasting friendships and bonds between players. “I’ve been super close friends with everyone on this team no matter their age. I think I’m going to miss that.”
