For PCDS students, ambition is nothing rare. Our small community thrives on high-achieving students who take initiative, lead clubs, and most importantly, take pride in their role as community members. In a place of connection, every mission becomes personal. Kidz 4 Causes is more than an organization; it is a shared purpose. What began as one PCDS family’s story has evolved into a movement that stretches far beyond our close community and into the lives of children facing rare diseases.
Led by juniors Camila Saenz and Madalyn Paltzik, Kidz 4 Causes describes itself as a “non-profit organization devoted to improving the lives of disadvantaged individuals.” Under their leadership, the organization has blossomed. It raises awareness for children with rare diseases, funds genetically based treatment for children, and inspires students across campus to get involved. Since its founding in 2015, Kidz 4 Causes has raised over $200,000 and has expanded into multiple states.
But for Paltzik, the work is personal. Her younger brother, Benjamin, lives with a rare autoimmune bone condition called CRMO, and the Paltzik family was entrusted with carrying on the cause. Paltzik shares, “Before his diagnosis, Ben spent 8 days in the hospital while doctors struggled to understand his rare condition. Despite ongoing treatments and checkups, he still has flare-ups. Kidz 4 Causes was founded so kids like Ben can get the support they deserve, and I’m honored to help make a difference.”
Both Paltzik’s passion and Camila’s equal dedication motivate them to spread their efforts and make a difference. The Paltzik family’s personal mission has quickly grown into a collaborative effort where every student can feel the power of community, empathy, and purpose. Kidz 4 Causes runs fundraisers with Zoyo Neighborhood Yogurt and Chipotle, which have quickly turned into community events. Seeing PCDS families, teachers, and students show up for each other and support the cause made the mission feel real. This kind of engagement proves that when a community unites around a cause, even our simple efforts make a big difference.
In a school that deems itself on its academic and athletic achievements, the little things can often be overlooked. Organizations such as Kidz 4 Causes remind us that impact doesn’t come from test scores or trophies, but from empathy and passion. It emerges from showing up for peers and becoming a part of something bigger than yourself. Kidz 4 Causes radiates support in a way that only a small community can. True change isn’t driven by adults with resources, but by students with heart and determination, who care and dare to act, and whose commitment changes lives.
