Last week, PCDS held the 57th annual Blue & Gold celebration with a week of fun activities and friendly competitions. Tuesday was Pajama Day, kicking off our Spirit Week dress-up themes. With hot chocolate served in the morning, students and teachers wore all different types of pajamas, including long sleeves, short sleeves, long pants, shorts, cotton, satin, polyester, prints, designs, and much more. A fan favorite has always been the classic black and red plaid pants, paired with a variety of tops. Junior Tara Ghafouri said that Pajama Day is a tradition that will “never get old.” During third break, the Senate held a pillow sack race, which showcased the students’ enthusiasm and dedication. With perseverance and wit, Seniors Jack Moriarty and Ben Sabol won the difficult race. It’s safe to say that Pajama Day was a comfy success at PCDS.
On Wednesday, everyone wore fan attire, representing a variety of different merchandise for Fan Day. There were sports teams, famous players, music groups, solo artists, books, movies, TV shows, and much more. It was a great day to show your pride and joy. Junior Madalyn Paltzik shared that she loved “how many different things were represented.” The Senate also provided different sports equipment for students to use in the Quad. Ultimately, Fan Day was a blissful day for teachers and students to represent and acknowledge their favorite merch.
Tropical Thursday was a big hit with a variety of Hawaiian shirts and leis, which brought the summer vibes back to PCDS. In the morning, Shirley Temples were served in the Quad for students to enjoy. The annual PCDS boat regatta was held at the pool to kick off the day’s celebrations. Junior Senator Niyam Patel was the MC of the event and introduced all of the teams. The 8th graders started the regatta with advisories competing against each other. Ms. Marks’ advisory won the race, continuing their winning streak. Then, there were four rounds with a total of 16 upper school student teams. After the rounds, the top teams (Bo’s Brigantine, The Nickels, The Seaboys, and the Ninja Turtles) competed for the championship. Senior Rachel Burns expressed that she enjoyed seeing all the creativity and hard work that the teams put into their boat, which led to a fun and entertaining event. After a very tight race, Bo’s Brigantine, against all odds, claimed the victory. With that, Tropical Thursday threw PCDS right back into summertime.
Blue & Gold Day was on Friday, during which students showcased their school spirit with matching shirts. Students from all three divisions wore their PCDS shirts, blue & gold makeup, tutus, and other festive accessories. Friday’s classes were shortened for the annual Blue & Gold Day Assembly, which introduced the different fall sports teams: volleyball, swim and dive, and cross country. The pep rally also featured a few games with students and teachers from across the school. The senior boys performed their long-awaited iconic dance, following the popular annual tradition of choreographing a silly, lighthearted routine for the entire school to enjoy. The day ended with fun rides and food trucks at the Blue & Gold carnival. Camila Saenz, a Junior, expressed that her favorite part of Blue & Gold was the famous firework show at the end of the night, and she admired how the fireworks “gathered the entire PCDS community in one space to enjoy the show together.” In the end, the 2025 Spirit Week was yet again a success, offering an exciting experience for all students and teachers to celebrate the annual Blue & Gold Day festivities.
